SEKURU NYANGATAYANI TO GRACE MOZA CELEBRATIONS

LOCAL traditional healer, Peter “Sekuru Nyangatayani” Chingudzi, is set to attend Mozambique’s Independence celebrations accompanied by two local music stars in Gema District today.

Mozambique is marking 50 years of independence from Portuguese colonial rule, achieved on June 25, 1975, after a long armed struggle led by Frelimo.

Sekuru Nyangatayani, who came out in the public recently blasting the twisted myth that raping minors can cure HIV/AIDS and calling it “pure evil,” has a significant following in both Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

He remained mum on the identity of the two musicians saying their involvement at the event was part of his surprise to the people of Mozambique.

In an interview, Sekuru Nyangatayani expressed his excitement, calling the invitation a symbol of unity.

“This invitation shows the strong bond between Zimbabweans and Mozambicans. I am honoured to be part of the delegation gracing this historic day.

“Since this is a major and memorable celebration, I want people to feast on two beasts and celebrate fully. I’ve arranged enough food and drinks so everyone can enjoy the day.

“I am also the ‘Joy Master’ for a reason – I love seeing people happy. I’m taking two local musicians with me to Mozambique. I can’t reveal their names yet,” he said.

Sekuru Nyangatayani welcomed the decision by the two Governments to embrace traditional healers at official events, recognising their role in preserving national heritage.

The Independence celebrations in Gema District are expected to draw large crowds and will be held at the same time as the main national Jubilee Celebrations in Maputo that will be attended by several Heads of State, including SADC Chair, President Mnangagwa.

Mozambique’s Golden Jubilee celebrations will be held at national, provincial and district levels.
