HARARE is set to roar with excitement this weekend as the Selekta Base BlowOut Festival returns to Borrowdale Racecourse, promising a high-octane fusion of motorsport, music, fashion, and family fun.
Touted as Zimbabwe’s premier car culture and lifestyle event, the festival is expected to draw thousands of car enthusiasts, bikers, children, and families for a day that celebrates the country’s vibrant urban culture and community spirit.
Now in its 10th year, the Selekta Base BlowOut Festival has grown from a niche gathering of car spinning aficionados into one of Africa’s most anticipated automotive and entertainment spectacles.
The festival’s roots lie in the explosive popularity of “spinning”—a motorsport that sees drivers perform daring stunts and burnouts, often exiting and re-entering their vehicles mid-spin, to the delight of roaring crowds.
Over the years, the event has evolved, incorporating live music, fashion, and lifestyle elements that reflect the dynamic pulse of Zimbabwean youth culture.
The event’s organisers have said safety and professionalism, reflecting the sport’s growing legitimacy and appeal across Southern Africa.
But the BlowOut Festival is more than just a motorsport event. This year’s entertainment lineup is a testament to Zimbabwe’s thriving music scene, headlined by some of the country’s most influential artists such as Freeman HKD, Nutty O, Sano Wav, and Silent Killer.
Supporting the headliners are DJs Rax, Rawse, Atlanta Kid, and MadeHerBelieve, ensuring non-stop music and entertainment from 11 AM to 6 PM.
Car culture events in Zimbabwe have become important spaces for social connection, knowledge exchange, and cultural pride. They foster a sense of belonging among enthusiasts and offer opportunities for mentorship, networking, and charitable initiatives.
As a DJ and event organiser, Selekta Base has been instrumental in elevating spinning from an underground pastime to a celebrated national sport, and in blending it with music and lifestyle to create a uniquely Zimbabwean festival experience.
In an interview, Selekta Base emphasised the festival’s broader mission.
