LIAM ROSENIOR has been officially named as Chelsea’s new manager on a bumper long-term contract.

The 41-year-old made the dramatic leap from French sister club Strasbourg following Enzo Maresca’s shock departure on New Year’s Day.

And club chiefs decided Rosenior, whose playing career saw him star at Fulham, Reading and Brighton, was the best man to continue their divisive football and transfer strategy following his time in Ligue 1.

Chelsea say they are “delighted” to unveil Rosenior, who has penned a whopping five-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further year.

Rosenior will be at Craven Cottage to watch his new team play Fulham on Wednesday, before taking his first full training session on Thursday.

Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Charlton will be his first at the helm.

A Chelsea statement read: “Rosenior arrives at Stamford Bridge after coaching overseas with RC Strasbourg, where he led the French club to European qualification for the first time in 19 years in his first season, and following earlier roles in England with Hull City and Derby County.

“Liam has shown that he can build teams with a clear way of playing while setting the highest standards with players on and off the pitch.

“While there will continue to be a focus on player development, the Club’s expectations and ambitions remain high.

“Liam has the ability to get the best out of this squad quickly and joins us with the responsibility and the backing to ensure Chelsea continues to compete at the top level in all competitions this season and in seasons to come. Welcome to Chelsea, Liam!” − Sun
