Zimbabwe’s longest-running festival of urban culture, Shoko Festival, is set to celebrate its 15th edition with the much-anticipated Shoko Comedy Night on September 25 at Harare Gardens.
This year’s event promises to be an unforgettable showcase of African humour and comedic talent, headlined by internationally acclaimed Zimbabwean comedian King Kandoro.
King Kandoro has become one of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated comedians. He made history as the first Zimbabwean to headline and sell out Reps Theatre in 2019, a feat he surpassed in 2021 with a sold-out 7 Arts Theatre Prodigal Son Tour. In December 2024, he achieved another milestone by selling out the 3 500-seat Celebration Centre, adding 400 extra seats to meet overwhelming demand.
His appearance at Shoko Festival 2025 marks a highly anticipated homecoming, coinciding with his birthday month, as he brings his internationally acclaimed tour back to Zimbabwe.
Adding international depth to the line-up is Kenya’s Justine Wanda, creator of the satirical show “Fake Woke With Justine”. With performances across South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Uganda, Justine brings a continental perspective to the festival. She has also contributed to The Fareed Khimani Show, Buni Media’s XYZ, and Zimbabwe’s Magamba TV.
Zimbabwean talents include Munyaradzi Chipere (Mike), whose sharp wit blends Shona, English, and street lingo for a relatable comedic experience; Munya, a multifaceted comedienne and performance artist; Mbongeni Ignatius Ndlovu, Bulawayo Arts Award winner for Outstanding Comedian (2023) and NAMA nominee (2025), known for his theatrical, rib-cracking style, and award-winning DJ DJ Iroq.
Festival Director Samm Farai Monro (Comrade Fatso) said the line-up reflects Shoko Festival’s commitment to nurturing Zimbabwe’s next generation of artists.
“King Kandoro is an example of the legacy we’ve built over 15 years through Shoko and Magamba TV. He returns triumphantly as a headliner, joined by an amazing group of comedians. It’s going to be a hilarious night that celebrates truth, creativity, and African humor,” Comrade Fatso said.
