SIXTEEN models from different parts of the country are set to converge in Harare today for a boot camp ahead of the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe finale, scheduled for April 11 in the capital.

The contestants are Lisa Kwainona, Beautify Siziba, Vimbainashe Mutyavaviri, Zanele Moyo, Rutendo Magade, Zandile Sibanda, Ropafadzo P Manyanga, Alexis Thuthani, Ruvarashe Jane Darare, Miriraiishe Magebede, Petronella Phiri, Letween Pikire, Noxolo Dube, Kathleen Chaziya, Mavhu Alexandra Kaseke and Silence Tadzembwa.

Running under the theme “See Zimbabwe First and Zimbabwe’s Ideal Miss”, the pageant aims to promote the country’s tourism offerings and celebrate its cultural identity.

The models’ matron and chaperone, Boitshepo Shumba, said preparations for the finale were at an advanced stage, with contestants ready for the final contest.

“Our objective is to present a high-quality representation of Zimbabwean beauty that reflects the true colours of the nation. The ultimate winner will go on to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Tourism World Finals in China.

“Preparations are almost complete, with boot camp commencing this Tuesday ahead of the grand finale on April 11,” said Shumba.

A journalism student at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo, who was crowned Miss Nust, won the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe title last year. A talented designer and spoken-word poet, she proved to be a well rounded queen, having earned recognition the previous year after winning the Outstanding Poet award at the Pumula Royal Arts and Community Awards.
