Slain broadcaster’s boyfriend remanded in custody

The prime suspect in the murder of broadcast journalist Cordelia Masalethulini appeared in court today and was remanded in custody until January 22.

The accused, Fungai Quintone Tawengwa (46), who was reportedly Cordelia Masalethulini’s boyfriend, appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo facing charges of murder.

During the court session, Magistrate Moyo informed Tawengwa that he was facing a third schedule offence, meaning only the High Court has the jurisdiction to grant him bail.

According to the prosecution, Cordelia Masalethulini (45) was found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Her half-naked body was discovered by a security guard along Domboshava Road in Borrowdale.
