Social media star, Ritz Mcleish shakes up Nama people’s choice voting . . . Outshines Jah Prayzah

Trending content creator Ritz Mcleish has emerged as a rising force in Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene, coming in a strong second in the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) People’s Choice voting.

Best known for her role in STRAW YEKU TEMU on Facebook and her popular Trending Stories with Ritz Mcleish, the fast-rising influencer beat music legend Jah Prayzah by a wide margin, signalling her growing influence.

Winky D took the top spot with 45 218 votes, while Ritz Mcleish garnered 39 812. Jah Prayzah trailed in third with 10 395 votes, followed by comedian and content creator Comic Elder at 7 089 votes, and musician Prince Chigwida with 4 818 votes.

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) released the results following public pressure to see how Ritz Mcleish had fared, reflecting the strong support for her work.


“We extend our gratitude to all the artistes for mobilising their fanbases and contributing to the vibrant democratic process of our arts industry. Let us do this again next year,” NACZ said.

Ritz Mcleish’s performance in the People’s Choice vote highlights the growing power of social media personalities in shaping Zimbabwe’s arts landscape, proving that new voices can compete with established stars.
