A SOLARISED borehole water system donated by the Brian Samuriwo Foundation is expected to ease water challenges for Lobengula residents, while a vegetable garden will improve nutrition for local families.
In light of the impending El Niño drought conditions that are expected to affect the country in the 2026/27 rainfall season, Bulawayo residents have called for alternative sources of water to augment tap water drawn from the city’s six supply dams.
Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA) chairman Mr Winos Dube applauded the Brian Samuriwo Foundation for providing residents with water.
“Water is life and every resident, from children to the elderly, deserves access to clean and reliable water. The solarised borehole system is now the property of Lobengula residents and I urge each and every one of you to guard the property jealously,” said Mr Dube.
Two more water tanks were also donated to residents for use during funerals to curb the risk of the spread of water-borne diseases when large crowds of people meet in one place without adequate water.
“My team will be back to install a perimeter fence to safeguard the borehole, solar system, water tank and other critical infrastructure. I also pledge to construct a 1 000-chicken rearing project that will assist the elderly to earn money and feed their families,” said Mr Brian Samuriwo.
