A 28-YEAR-OLD man turned one of the world’s most peaceful sports into a life-threatening “extreme event,” unleashing fury on bar property.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the bizarre bar brawl occurred in Gwayi on 3 October 2025. Cloudious
Nyoni was playing pool with friends when an argument erupted over the score.
In a fit of rage, Nyoni flipped the pool table, sending balls flying and the table crashing to the ground. As shocked patrons scattered, the furious player grabbed a cue stick and used it as a weapon—smashing a 52-inch television mounted on the wall.
“The offender reacted violently and turned over the pool table which then fell to the ground and got damaged. He then used a pool stick to smash a 52-inch television which was on the wall,” read the NPAZ statement.
The destruction spree left property worth US$1 500 in ruins. The Hwange Magistrates’ Court handed Nyoni a 12-month jail sentence, with six months suspended for five years. The remaining six months were also suspended on condition he pays restitution of US$1500 to the bar owner by 17 November 2025.
In a warning to the public, the NPAZ said: “We urge members of the public to desist from senseless acts of violent behaviour which usually lead to dire consequences. The law will not hesitate to punish offenders and protect victims in such cases like this one.”
