SRC BOSS GETS KEY AUSC POST

SPORTS Commission chairperson Nathaniel Madzivanyika has been appointed a member of the Region 5 Physical Education, Sports Development and Recreation Commission under the African union Sports Council (AUSC).

Stanley Mutoya, the AUSC CEO, advised Madzivanyika of his appointment for a period of two years. It is contingent upon his continued service in his current SRC role.

“I congratulate you on your appointment and look forward to your contributions to the Commission’s work.

“We appreciate your support and send our best regards,” wrote Mutoya.

Madzivanyika is set to lead a delegation of SRC members to the AUSC forum in Maputo, Mozambique, from March 9-14.

The delegation will include prominent sports administrators.

They include Ignatius Vambe (chairperson of the Governance, Audit, and Ethics Commission), Peter Mudzamiri (Budget, Finance, Risk, and Legal Commission member), Sabastian Garikai (High Performance Commission member), Witness Magulula (chairperson of the Sport for People with Disabilities Committee), Cousinet Simunye (Women in Sport Committee member), and Masimba Mutemaringa (Desk Officer).

“The appointment highlights Zimbabwe’s rising prominence in regional sports,” said Madzivanyika.

“The upcoming forum in Mozambique will be crucial in shaping the future direction of our region’s sports initiatives.

“The outcomes of this review will be presented to the Board of Advisors for consideration during their meeting in May 2026 in Botswana.”

AUSC member countries include Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
