A WOMAN from Mzilikazi has finally put her foot down after months of harassment from her estranged husband, winning a five-year protection order in the Bulawayo civil court.
Miriam Ndlovu told Magistrate Challenge Mahembe that her husband, Madala Ncube, has refused to accept that their marriage fell apart in 2022. Since separating, Madala has allegedly been stalking her from her workplace to her home, embarrassing her in public and threatening violence.
“He ambushes me and insults me for no reason,” Miriam told the court. “I fear he might even kill me. He does not care if it’s public or private. He keeps stalking me because he cannot accept that I no longer love him.”
According to Miriam, Madala has at times begged to “bury the hatchet” and rekindle their romance. When she refuses, he reportedly becomes angry and abusive. Two weeks ago, she said, he even threatened to confront her at work and beat her up, leaving her living in fear.
Madala took the stand and denied stalking his wife, insisting, “I have never stalked her and I do not have a complaint if the court proceeds to grant a protection order.”
Magistrate Mahembe granted the order, barring Madala from verbally or physically abusing Miriam. The order is valid for five years, giving her breathing space and some peace of mind after months of intimidation.
