Two men who blinded a passer-by in one eye, in a senseless act of violence have been thrown behind bars for five years.
Sidney Musagonda (37) and Dzitoyi Gute (30) were convicted of attempted murder by the Gokwe Magistrates’ Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the pair ambushed a 31-year-old man on 13 September 2025 as he walked past their home.
“The victim remained quiet but the offenders followed him, strangled him and struck him once with a stone on the right eye,” read the NPAZ statement.
The terrified victim managed to break free and ran for his life while the duo pelted him with more stones. He was later rushed to Gokwe General Hospital and then referred to Gweru Hospital, where doctors confirmed that his right eye was completely damaged and needed removal.
The court heard that the attack was unprovoked and left the community in shock.
In a stern warning, the NPAZ said:
“Violent crimes will not be tolerated. Offenders will be prosecuted, and justice will be vigorously pursued to uphold the sanctity of human life.”
