A strong storm that lasted for a few hours on Monday has left a trail of destruction at Makhado Police Post in Beitbridge located some 80km along the Beitbridge-Bulawayo Highway in Matabeleland South.

The police post is key in policing the resettled and rural areas bordering Gwanda and Beitbridge districts and responding to crime and road accidents between the two towns of Gwand and Beitbridge.

Police Officer Commanding Beitbridge District (Dispol) Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube confirmed the development.

“We have received a report about that incident where the police quarters were affected by a strong storm. However, none of our officers were injured. The worst affected buildings are the police houses and we are now working on an emergency plan to address accommodation issues,” he said.
