Masawara Holdings Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Shingai Mutasa, has urged entrepreneurs and individuals to remain focused on their own journeys, warning against the dangers of comparison in a fast-paced and competitive environment.

Speaking at the Zimpapers Public Lecture titled Beyond the Individual, Mr Mutasa highlighted how comparing oneself to others can create unnecessary pressure and emotional strain.

“We tend to compare ourselves with somebody, and sometimes it makes you feel like you are failing because that person seems to be doing well,” he said.

“But sometimes it’s a different story. So don’t focus on others because if you do, you may depress yourself.”

Mr Mutasa said success should not be measured against external appearances, noting that what may seem like progress in others’ lives does not always reflect the full reality.

He emphasised the importance of cultivating a clear and resilient sense of purpose, particularly in the face of challenges.

“You need a strong vision that you believe in, and it can take you through difficult times.”

The business leader also encouraged traders and small-scale entrepreneurs to prioritise long-term goals over short-term material gains.

“Traders and small-scale players who want to grow need to have a strong vision. Don’t focus on the materials or that expensive car”

“The event was proudly sponsored by Old Mutual Zimbabwe, Minerva, and Zimnat.”
