STRONG winds blew off the roof at Siakobvu Hospital in Kariba on Sunday, forcing the discharge of patients and disrupting maternity services.
The incident affected the hospital’s male and female wards.

No injuries were reported.
Mashonaland West Provincial Secretary Mr Josphat Jaji confirmed the incident and said patients and staff are safe.
The hospital’s medical officer said the damage had forced the facility to suspend admissions and deliveries, with only the outpatient department remaining operational.

“The wind blew off the roof at Siakobvu Hospital. It has affected all the wards and we are no longer able to conduct deliveries or admit patients with immediate effect.
“We discharged all patients and are only able to attend to outpatients,” he said.
Further details on the extent of the damage and plans to restore normal operations were not immediately available.
