IT feels like we blinked, and now it’s time to drop the gate for the Supercross Fun Day at Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare this afternoon
In fact, the iconic venue of local motorsport – Donnybrook – will once again burst into life this weekend as it hosts two high profile events.
First on the menu is today’s Supercross Fun Day, which is expected to attract most of the country’s top junior and senior motocross riders.
The event comes hot on the heels of last weekend’s Goromonzi Enduro which was held at Ruzawi Polocrosse Club in Goromonzi just outside Harare.
The Goromonzi Enduro attracted a good entry of more than 50 junior and senior motorbike riders most of whom are expected to be back on the road again this weekend, this time heading to Donnybrook Park Raceway for this afternoon’s Supercross Fun Day, which revs off at 3pm.
This motorcycling event will soon be followed by the opening round of the 2026 Sables Karting Club season at the same venue tomorrow morning.
Local motorsport enthusiasts are spoiled for choice as they will either head to Donnybrook to watch this afternoon’s Supercross Fun Day or to wait until tomorrow to be part of the first round of the Sables Karting Club season.
This afternoon’s Supercross Fun Day promises to be a thrilling event as it will see the country’s top junior and senior dirt bike riders going bumper to bumper in all the classes that are on the table.
The cast for the junior riders will be headed by Victor Nyamupfukudza who is fast becoming the darling of the local motocross fans.
The young rider, who turns 12 in May, now rides in the 85cc Class, up from the 65cc Class.
Nyamupfukudza’s father and manager, Simbarashe, confirmed yesterday that his son “will definitely” compete in today’s Supercross Fun Day at Donnybrook.
Victor, a Grade 7 pupil at Elland Oak Junior School in Waterfalls, will be racing in his third competition of this season after he first took part in the opening round of the 2026 Bogwheelers Club National Championship series at Donnybrook early last month before he raced in round one of this year’s South African National Championship series at Terra Topia just outside Johannesburg two weeks ago.
Today, Victor is expected to be joined on the track by fellow talented young riders Kudzwai Chitsurura, Seb Wright, Chris Mufanechiya, Elroy Shamuyarira, Jayden Kerwin and the Sakupwanya brothers, Mudiwa and Judah.
Strong performances are also expected from senior riders Dougie Mellor, Riley Rocher, Emmanuel Bako and Ashley Thixton.
Today’s Supercross Fun Day is expected to deliver another exciting day of racing as competitors gather at Donnybrook Park in Harare.
The sport of Supercross is best described as motocross racing that takes place within the confines of a sports stadium.
The tracks are typically shorter in length than a standard motocross track.
After hosting today’s Supercross Fun Day, Donnybrook will tomorrow open its gates to the kart racing fans who will be out to watch the opening round of the 2026 Sables Karting Club season.
Tomorrow’s event will be the first race day held by the Sables Karting Club.
According to the chairman of the Sables Karting Club, Ryan Mukandiwoni, this will be the start of a six-race season with exciting competitive racing in store.
Races start at 11:55am with trophies and cash prizes to be won.
“We are excited to be back running a full club championship for all classes. We’re racing on a track that uses a section of the main track.
“This karting layout is closely compared by most to a street track with the low grip, varying elevation and banking.
“It’s truly a one of a kind layout out which brings excitement to both drivers and spectators there to see the power of race karts,” Mukandiwoni said.
