HITMAKER Takura reminded fans why he remains one of Zimbabwe’s top musicians with a fine performance at the Unplugged concert in Harare over the weekend.
The ‘Tattoo’ hitmaker rolled out crowd favourites including ‘Mai Mwana’, ‘Handizvione’ and ‘Anondida.’ among others at the First Capital Bank Sports Club in Mt Pleasant.
Takura wasted no time in turning up the heat, delivering a polished and energetic set.
The family-friendly music and lifestyle festival drew a huge crowd, with fans treated to a colourful mix of established stars and fresh talent.
Rising star Kim Makumbe also made a vibrant debut, signalling the arrival of a promising new voice on the local music scene.
Tamy Moyo, Tahle Wedzinza, guitar Sylent Nqo, Tanto Waive and Travellers Band were also on the star-studded line-up.
The event proved to be a celebration of Zimbabwe’s evolving music scene, with established acts sharing the stage with an energetic new wave of talent.
Upcoming artist Delight Hungwe overcame first-performance nerves to make his debut at The Unplugged event.
Hungwe, who was among the emerging artists given an opportunity to showcase their talents at the entertainment extravaganza, admitted that he was nervous before stepping onto the stage.
However, the excitement of performing in front of a live audience quickly took over as he embraced the opportunity to introduce himself to a wider audience.
“I’m kinda nervous because this is my first performance. I am also very excited to be here,” Hungwe said.
“Thank you so much for such an honour. Thank you to Mr Kadondo for preparing such an event for us,” he said.
Hungwe said the reception he received helped make his first major performance a memorable experience.
“The audience, the hyping, everything was very wow,” he said.
One fan, Tariro Moyo, said Hungwe handled himself well despite it being his first performance.
“He did very well for someone performing on such a big stage for the first time. You could see he was nervous, but he managed to settle down and enjoy himself,” Moyo said.
Another reveller, Tinashe Dube, said the opportunity could help Hungwe grow his career.
“I had not heard of Delight before the event, but I liked what I saw. These platforms are important because they give upcoming artistes a chance to introduce themselves to new fans,” Dube said.
Rumbidzai Chikore, another attendee, said Hungwe showed potential and deserved more opportunities to perform at major events.
“For a first performance, I think he did well. He has the energy and the confidence will definitely come with more performances. I would like to see him on another big stage,” Chikore said.
The positive reception could give Hungwe the confidence to continue pursuing his musical ambitions as he works towards establishing himself in the competitive local music industry.
Events such as Unplugged provide emerging artistes with opportunities to share stages with established performers while gaining exposure and building relationships with audiences.
