Controversial social media personality Talent Moyo is back in custody after allegedly stealing US$48 from a parked car in Bulawayo.
Talent appeared last Saturday before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahembe, facing a charge of theft. He confirmed the allegations and was ordered to be examined by two State doctors. He was remanded in custody until 21 November.
Prosecutor Brenda Ndlovu, told the court that Talent targeted Welshman Tavengwa’s car, parked along Jason Moyo Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. Talent allegedly opened the driver’s door, took a wallet, removed US$48 and fled. Tavengwa reported the matter to Bulawayo Central Police, leading to Talent’s arrest.
This is not Talent’s first brush with the law. He is also facing another theft case, which has not yet gone to trial. He allegedly snatched US$150 from Bulawayo businesswoman Value Chivange, along busy 6th Avenue near Jason Moyo and Fife Street. Court papers say the influencer shoved his hands into Chivange’s pockets, grabbed her cash, and disappeared into the evening crowd.
None of the money has been recovered.
The arrest has sparked a storm on social media, with divided opinions.
Some users labelled him a menace who harasses women and should be jailed. Others defended him, saying his behaviour is attention-seeking but not criminal.
One social media user wrote, “The way he harasses women in town is unacceptable. He needs help or jail time.”
Another countered, “He is just misunderstood. He likes attention, but I don’t believe he would steal.”
Talent’s latest court appearance has reignited debates about influencer culture in Bulawayo, and whether fame comes with a responsibility to behave or the freedom to push limits.
For now, Talent Moyo remains behind bars, awaiting further proceedings while the city watches closely to see if the influencer will face another legal battle over the alleged theft from Chivange.
