A SMOOTH-TALKING Njube teenager was arrested for having sex with a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
According to Zimbabwean law, a person under the age of 18 cannot consent to sex.
Sylvester Moyo (19) narrowly avoided a stint behind bars after being hauled before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube. The young Romeo was facing a charge of having sexual intercourse with a minor following a whirlwind romance that landed him in the dock.
The court heard that Moyo met his young sweetheart at Luveve Shopping Centre on 28 December 2025. After a brief session of “vibing,” the 15-year-old girl accepted his proposal.
However, the honeymoon phase hit a brick wall on 11 January. Prosecutor Cathrine Kuzu told the court that Moyo invited the girl over and the pair engaged in consensual intimacy twice. The romance soured when the girl failed to return home, sparking panic from her parents who immediately alerted the authorities.
Magistrate Ncube initially slapped Moyo with a 12-month prison sentence. However, the teen caught a break when the court decided to keep him out of the cells:
The magistrate suspended four months for five years on condition of good behavior and the remaining eight months were put on hold on condition that he completes 280 hours of community service.
Moyo has been ordered to perform his unpaid labour at Njube Police Station, where he will be working under the watchful eye of the very officers who handled his case.
