DANCEHALL giant Vybz Kartel has sparked conversation across social media after sharing a message promoting unity between Zimbabweans and South Africans.

Kartel urged Africans to embrace peace, togetherness and solidarity, saying divisions between neighbouring countries should not exist.

“My brothers and sisters from South Africa, take time with our brothers in Zimbabwe because we’re one,” said Kartel.“Oneness matters more.”

The statement quickly attracted attention online, with many Zimbabweans praising the musician for using his platform to encourage African unity at a time when tensions between citizens of different African countries often dominate online conversations.

Fans flooded comment sections with reactions, with some saying Kartel’s message carried more weight because it came from an outsider looking into African relations.

“One Africa forever. Big up Kartel for speaking facts,” commented one fan.Another wrote: “This is the energy we need. We are neighbours before anything else.”

Some social media users said the statement touched on issues that continue to affect many Zimbabweans living and working in South Africa, where debates around immigration and economic pressure often trigger tensions online.

“Whether people like it or not, Zimbabwe and South Africa need each other,” another fan posted.

Others praised the artist for promoting positivity instead of controversy, saying celebrities rarely use viral moments to push messages about unity.

“Man chose peace and love instead of drama. Respect to Kartel,” read another reaction. The video also gained traction because of Kartel’s strong following in Zimbabwe and across Africa.

The dancehall veteran has remained influential on the continent for years, with many local artists drawing inspiration from his music style, lyrical delivery and stage persona.Although the message was brief, entertainment followers said it resonated deeply because it addressed a subject many Africans continue to debate both online and offline.

Some fans also linked Kartel’s comments to the broader Pan-African movement, which promotes unity among African nations despite cultural and political differences.

“Borders should never divide African people,” one user wrote.

Another added: “A Jamaican artist understands African unity better than some of us.”The viral moment comes at a time when African entertainers are increasingly using their influence to speak on social and cultural issues beyond music. From calls for peace to campaigns promoting African identity, celebrities continue to shape public conversations across the continent.

Kartel’s statement may have lasted only a few seconds, but it managed to ignite discussion among thousands of fans who shared the clip across multiple platforms.

For many followers, the message was simple but important unity matters more than nationality, and Africans should support each other instead of being divided by borders.
