ZIMDANCEHALL chanter Poptain has revealed that he is now mentally and emotionally ready to release new music.
This comes after he revealed that he was struggling with depression and mental health issues, which has led to his occasional erratic behaviour.
The chanter is in Zambia shooting music for his new project set to be released later this month.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment hub, Poptain spoke candidly about how his new album has been deeply influenced by his personal struggles.
“I can’t wait for my fans to fall in love with my music again.
“This is one of my favourite and most important pieces of work as an artist.
“This new project is a demonstration that recovery is possible and that there is hope for those facing similar challenges.
“The music can serve as a reminder that even during the darkest of times, there is light at the end of the tunnel and that creative expression can be a vital tool in the journey of healing.
“The act of creating music itself can be therapeutic for those dealing with depression.
“Many artists find that songwriting and performing allow them to process their emotions and connect with their audiences at a deeper level.
“This can lead to a sense of release and healing, as well as a stronger sense of purpose,”said Poptain.
Poptain also spoke emotionally about a phase in his life where he experienced a complete detachment from reality.
He disclosed that this challenging period kept him away from the music industry for a significant time.
“Many artists struggle with depression but they can and do recover. Art can be a powerful tool in managing depression, both for self-expression and as a therapeutic outlet.
“Professional help, including therapy and medication, can also play a crucial role in recovery, allowing artists to find a balance between their emotional struggles and their creative expression,” he said.
The ‘Kokai’ said it was crucial to normalise conversations around mental health, as it can empower others, who are facing similar battles, to seek help and support, without feeling ashamed.
“I hope that my fans, especially those going through mental health challenges, find solace in my music. I believe that art has the power to heal.
“I would also like to acknowledge the support and love I received from my fellow artists. The love was overwhelming.”
Poptain is well known for his 2020 song ‘Fadza Mutengi,’ and ‘Kokai,’ featuring Nutty O.
Last year, Poptain found himself shooting up the trends list after an expletive-laden outburst aimed at fellow musician Young Gemini was captured and widely shared on social media.
