The unity that births revival

GREETINGS, beloved, in the name of Jesus Christ. Psalms 133:1-3 states: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”

One thing we should understand is that revival was designed by God to awaken the body of Christ so that the nations of the world may come to a body that is awakened. There have been many revivals in the past. Some of them happened before we were born, but we have heard about them.

One of the great revivals was initiated by three individuals who came together and this revival spread throughout Great Britain. It began with these three individuals opening up to each other about their weaknesses. Remember, these were pastors.

I want to show you what unity is truly about. Many times, when we talk about unity, we think of people holding hands in church and claim we are united. Or when people clap for you, you think they are united with you. But true unity is about two or more people who are able to love each other deeply and cover one another. The greatest unity we can identify is that of a man and woman who are married. I am not talking about the fake marriages we see in this generation but the true biblical marriage where different individuals come together and become one.

Nowadays, even in the house of God, there are women who claim to be one with their husbands, yet they keep secret bank accounts; there are husbands secretly building houses, and both justify this by calling it an escape plan. This is not the unity I speak of. I speak of unity that is Holy Spirit-sponsored, where you become your brother’s keeper.

Do you know the house of God is no longer a safe place? You cannot go and confess your sins to your brother as the Bible says in James 5:16:

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

The church has not become the safest place. Apostle James talks about confessing faults to one another and praying for one another so that healing may occur. Such prayers bring healing — emotional, spiritual or physical. The Lord respects such prayers.

These days, the moment you open up your faults, I tell you that whatever you have confessed will be heard in an exaggerated form. We cannot talk about unity if there is no trust or love.

These three men of God, as they prayed for revival in their nation, started to confess their faults genuinely to one another. One said, “My brother, I have a problem with women.”

Another said, “I have a problem with stealing money in church.”

The third said, “I have a problem with drinking beer and hitting my wife.”
They opened up and began to pray for one another.

The revival that came as a result was so remarkable that there was such conviction that even the police remained in their stations because crime ceased. What a great revival was birthed by men who understood the importance of unity!

In John 17:20-22, we read about Jesus praying for us that we may be one. There is what we call the spirit of unity. Unless that spirit possesses the body of Christ, we will not see revival because revival is birthed through unity.

When Jesus prayed, He mentioned the unity of the Trinity. If we claim we belong to God, this unity must be seen in us. The reason Jesus prayed for unity is because it is one of the things the devil fights.

In 1 John 5:7, it says: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

You will discover that these three—Father, Jesus (the Word) and the Holy Spirit—are one. They cannot be separated.

What makes Heaven “Heaven” is the tranquillity, joy, peace and goodness, which come from the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That is why there is so much order in heaven.

So, when Jesus prayed for unity, He understood what unity does in the body of Christ. More victories, prosperity, and peace will manifest and this will cause the heathens to come to the Lord.
Because of time, I will not differentiate the different kinds of unity, but there is what we call evil unity — where witches and wizards unite to fight an individual or territory. The devil causes much havoc in the world because of the secret of evil unity with demons.

Remember Jesus said to the Pharisees, “A house divided cannot stand.”

Before we talk about revival, we need a revival of unity in the body of Christ, then we can talk about the revival of souls. It is unfortunate that the world understands unity more than the body of Christ. Surely the Lord must help us to return to the first gospel and stop the gospel of individuality and superstars — the gospel where only the prophet knows the mysteries of the kingdom and the rest of the body must beg him.

When you are a doctor or a lawyer, you sign a secrecy act, which means you cannot disclose someone’s condition. Unfortunately, in the house of God, there is no secrecy act. In Jesus’ days, He would tell some disciples not to tell certain things until the Son of Man was taken. He prayed for people not to tell anyone.

One of the things that has destroyed unity in the body of Christ is lack of trust. People do not trust their shepherds and shepherds do not trust their congregations. As long as this cycle continues, the church will not progress and revival will not come.

In our churches, many people do not talk or love each other. But if you take Highlanders Football fans from different parts of the city, they hold hands and help each other — as long as you wear the club colours.

Someone once said, if you go to a beer hall without money, you will return drunk because the people there understand the power of unity, love and sharing.

If we want revival, let us return to the first love we had when we were born again. Then we can talk about end-time revival.

I invite you to receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that He is your Lord and Saviour and you shall be saved.
May God bless you all.
