MISS Global Zimbabwe Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo is using the runway to remind fans that there is more to her than the crown and sash she wears as a beauty queen.
Nkomo, who recently took part in the Edgar’s Fashion Extravaganza, said fashion and creativity have given her different platforms to express herself while shaping her journey.
The beauty queen said the runway remains special to her because it allowed her to tell stories through movement and fashion without having to speak.
“The runway has always been a space where I feel completely at home.
“There’s something about fashion, movement and storytelling that allows me to communicate without saying a word,” she said.
Nkomo said she is a woman with many passions including fashion, design, runway, poetry and creativity.
She said her appearance at the fashion extravaganza reminded her that her journey was bigger than pageantry.
“These moments from the Edgar’s Fashion Extravaganza are a reminder that there is so much more to me than a crown and a sash.
“I am a collection of every dream, every talent and every experience that has brought me here.
“And this is only one chapter,” she said.
Nkomo is also putting the final touches to her preparations ahead of her trip to Thailand, where she will represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Global 2026 pageant.
The pageant takes place from September 29 with the grand final scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at the MCC Hall, The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan in Bangkok/Nonthaburi.
The host will be Miss Universe 2023 first runner-up Anntonia Porsild and Kornkan Sutthikoses.
Through her GreenMinds initiative, Nkomo also wants to link environmental awareness with mental well-being, creating spaces where young people can express themselves, feel valued and recognise the importance of their surroundings.
“One of the initiatives closest to my heart is GreenMinds, which focuses on connecting environmental awareness with mental well-being.
“I believe we often separate the environment from our mental health, when in reality, the spaces we live in can have a huge impact on how we feel.
“I’ve also continued using poetry, fashion and creative arts as tools for youth empowerment and storytelling.
“For me, advocacy doesn’t always have to look like a traditional campaign.
“Sometimes it’s creating a space where young people can express themselves, feel seen and realise that their creativity has value.”
