Thousands gather for Workers Day in Harare

Thousands of workers have gathered at Dzivarasekwa Stadium in Harare to commemorate Workers’ Day.

Among the dignitaries are acting Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima, Zanu PF Secretary for Labour Cde Richard Ndlovu, Zanu PF Deputy Secretary for Security Cde Tendai Chirau, Zanu PF Harare provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa, CCC member Mr Amos Chibaya, MDC-T vice president Paurina Mupariwa and ZCTU leadership, among others.

ZCTU president Ms Florence Mucha Taruvinga called for progressive engagement through dialogue with employers.

“We are appealing to Government to monitor the working conditions of employees in different sectors,” she said.

She called on political parties not to interfere with labour union bodies.
