A TWO-YEAR-OLD toddler drowned in Save River at Bhasvi Village in Buhera last week.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the death of Tinotenda Rwambiwa (two) of Bhasvi Village under Chief Nyashanu, which occurred on October 8 at around 11am.
“The boy was left playing outside while his grandmother, Ms Emily Rwambiwa (67), had fallen asleep inside the house. He allegedly followed a herd of cattle that was heading to Save River, about 200 metres from their homestead, and drowned while attempting to cross the river.
“When the grandmother woke up, she noticed that the child was missing and informed his father, Mr Lacktone Rwambiwa, who was working at a nearby garden. They conducted a search, and later found the body lying between the river banks on a stone. The matter was reported at Dorowa Police Station, and police attended the scene and retrieved the body,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged parents and guardians to never leave young children unattended, and to always ensure their safety, especially near water bodies.
