Traditional buffet at Cafe Afrique

Visitors to Zimbabwe and local residents alike will enjoy the exciting traditional buffet now on offer at Harare’s Café Afrique restaurant, where a wide selection of Zimbabwean dishes has been introduced to tempt palates looking for variety and innovation.
Café Afrique is situated on the ground floor of Cresta Oasis, on the fringe of the Harare central business district, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.
The hotel is popular with business travellers and conference delegates and welcomes a number of international tourists.

The restaurant has an a la carte menu offering a range of light meals and more substantial dishes, but the buffet within the venue has now been exclusively set aside for lunches and dinners that offer traditional Zimbabwean food.

Cresta Oasis general manager Crispen Chimumvuri, food and beverage manager Freeman Mutada and executive chef Petronella Munyoro have worked hard to design a buffet offering that provides Zimbabweans with dishes they known and love.

At the same time they have made it appealing to international travellers, positioning Café Afrique as a “must go” venue for tourists wanting a genuine Zimbabwean culinary experience with a stylish choice of interesting foods and styles.

Starters include a range of traditional nibbles, from flame roasted mealies to sweet potato and from kapenta to madora.
At the same time, guests can enjoy a cup of maheu, while seasonal fruit will be on offer. Although soup is not strictly traditional, local ingredients have been brought in to make delicious hot soups.

Main courses will include a selection of meats chosen with daily variety from chicken, pork, game, crocodile, goat, bream, guinea fowl and beef –  the latter including favourites such as brisket and oxtail. Accompaniments will include sadza, peanut butter rice, samp and vegetables.

Desserts are also not strictly local, but a range is on offer and includes favourites that have a local flavour –  such as mawuyu (baobab fruit) mousse – along with conventional dessert dishes.

“What is on offer will tempt any palate and head waiter Silas Nengomasha and the rest of the Café Afrique team look forward to welcoming many Zimbabweans and foreign visitors to their buffet,” said Mr Chimumvuri.

“This offers a genuine and enjoyable taste treat from the rich abundance of Zimbabwean foods.
Guests not staying at the hotel will be pleased to know that secure parking is available within the hotel grounds – accessed in the lane running through the centre of the block between Nelson Mandela Ave and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue on which the hotel is situated and open to vehicles coming from either Fifth Street or Fourth Street.
