“YOU can’t take your father’s car like it’s a toy!”
A 25-year-old man landed himself in hot water after allegedly stealing his father’s truck and taking it for a spin — without permission and without a driver’s licence!

Freeman Junior Muleya appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Casmila Madzikatire, facing two charges — theft and driving without a valid licence.

The court heard that on March 26 at around 6AM, Muleya allegedly took his father Vhusani Sibanda’s Toyota Dyna truck, which was parked at home, and drove it to Hopeville Road in Umguza — all without his consent.

For his actions, Muleya was ordered to pay a US$150 fine for the first charge or face three months in prison if he fails to pay.

On the second charge, he was slapped with a US$200 fine or four months behind bars.
In a related case, a 34-year-old man was also punished for driving without a licence — and causing an accident that left a pedestrian seriously injured.

kosilathi Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Themba Chimiso, where he was sentenced to four months in prison, which were suspended on condition he performs 140 hours of community service.

He was also fined US$300 for negligent driving.
Prosecutor Sam Mpofu told the court that on February 6 at around 5PM, Moyo was driving a Honda Fit without a licence.

At the intersection of 6th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street, he hit a pedestrian, Kelvin Thodhlana.

Thodhlana suffered a fractured right leg and was rushed to Mpilo Hospital for treatment.

The court heard that Moyo’s negligence included speeding, failing to hoot, and not reacting reasonably as the accident unfolded.
