AN INCIDENT of brutal violence has left residents of Tsholotsho in shock after a family at Mzenzi Line was allegedly attacked by a known group of war veterans linked to the ruling Zanu-PF party, that assaulted family members and sexually abused a minor.
The attack reportedly occurred when Blessings Mguni, had come to stay with her grandparents in the area for school.
According to reports from the family and community members, the gang arrived at the homestead looking for Blessings’ father, Thandazani Mguni, believing he had returned to the area after allegedly fleeing some time ago.
When they failed to find him, the gang allegedly turned on the elderly couple and their granddaughter in a violent attack that has traumatised the local community.
Sources said the attackers severely assaulted the grandparents while demanding that they reveal the whereabouts of their son.
In the course of the violence, the gang allegedly raped the 13-year-old girl.
The disturbing incident has sent shockwaves across the area, with villagers expressing outrage and fear over the attack.
Traditional leader Chief Siposo condemned the attack, saying the violence had deeply disturbed the community.
“This is a very painful and shocking incident for the community. People are living in fear after what happened to this family,” said Chief Siposo.
He said while emotions were running high in the community, justice must be pursued through legal channels.
“The law has to take its course, and those responsible must be brought to justice,” he said.
Residents said the attack had left the affected family devastated, with the grandparents nursing injuries and the young girl receiving counselling following the traumatic ordeal.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, no arrests had been made by the time of publication, raising concerns among villagers over the pace of investigations.
Community members have urged law enforcement authorities to move swiftly to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
