BULAWAYO sprint sensation Methembe Tshuma was due to arrive in Pretoria, South Africa on Thursday morning ahead of the South African Engen Series Athletics Championships on Saturday.
The runner who ran a stunning 10.05 seconds 100m in Bulawayo on February 7, left the City of Kings and Queens late on Wednesday afternoon.
He paid tribute to Bakers Inn the sponsors of his trip to South Africa where he will bid to qualify for the African Championships’ 100 and 200m events.
Ghana will play host to the continental meeting for senior athletes in May.
“I am grateful to Bakers Inn and Chronicle for making this happen. Without the two I would not have had the opportunity to travel and try and bid to qualify to represent the country at the African Championships in Ghana,” said Tshuma.
Last week Chronicle wrote a story about his plight.
He is a top sprinter attached to Ihlosi Athletics Club and has no sponsor to enable him to travel to top events in Zimbabwe and beyond the borders.
He is a 4x100m African Junior Championships silver medalist achieved in Nigeria last year.
Tshuma confirmed that Denis Hove, a potential relays teammate is also traveling to Pretoria for the Engen Series.
The first will be on Saturday with the second set for February 28.
