TWINS Papa and Percy Dube, who were born in the same year as Elvis Presley, have celebrated their 90th birthday in grand style.
Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, died on August 16, 1977.
But, Papa and Percy, who were born in 1935, are still alive today, 48 years after the iconic singer’s death.
Papa and Percy were mere four-year-olds when World War II broke out.
On Sunday, they celebrated their latest birthday anniversary.
The joyous occasion was graced by the Katonha twins, Farai Lawyer and Tendai Mayor, and the duo’s family, including their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Papa said:
“It is our first birthday celebration and we thank our children together with our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“We honour the Almighty God for this precious life.”
The Dube twins praised the Katonha twins for their dedication to uniting different tribes and races.
Percy said:
“We never thought the Katonha twins would visit us.
“Their love and commitment to transforming the twins and multiple birth community is commendable.”
The Dube twins took a moment to reflect on their lives.
They recalled an attempt in 1984 to form a community for twins which, unfortunately, did not come to fruition.
Interestingly, the Katonha twins were born in the same year, 1984, in Mashonaland East.
Percy said:
“Indeed, God is amazing. We thought our idea was going to die before its fruition.
“Our God has brought in energetic twins who were not known to us and they have rekindled the idea which was in our minds.”
The world’s oldest twins are Helma Harris and Thelma Barrat, who were 106 years, 135 days.
Francesca and Maria Rirriardi are 102 years, 327 days.
Mary and Johanna Gebhard are 102 years, 132 days and Anna Maria and Annalisa Rusconi are 102 years, 84 days.
BORN IN THE YEAR OF THE KING
Papa and Percy were not only born in the same year that Presley was born but they share the same year of birth with other notable world figures.
Papa and Percy were born in the same year that the Dalai Lama was born.
Papa and Percy were born in the year that Baby Ruth, considered the world’s greatest baseball player of all-time, hit the last of his 741 home runs. Baby Ruth, who starred for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, won seven World Series championships.
