TWO men have landed in hot water after snatching a Samsung phone from a ride-hailing service, InDrive, driver and threatening him with stones in a brazen robbery.

Nigel Mlambo (29) and Fortune Sibanda (26) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Vimbai Chirai facing theft charges.

Both pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to April 9.

State prosecutor Arnold Mudekunye told the court that the shocking incident went down on March 5 at around 10 PM.

The victim, Lloyd Nyathi, had parked outside a client’s home in Mzilikazi while waiting for them to exit the vehicle. That’s when Mlambo and Sibanda struck.

“They started chatting with the client, and in a swift move, Sibanda reached through the open window and grabbed the complainant’s Samsung A14 phone,” Mudekunye said.

When Nyathi tried to escape, the accused reportedly threatened him with stones, brandishing them to prevent him from chasing them.

The driver wasted no time reporting the matter to police, who acted fast and arrested the two suspects.
The stolen Samsung, valued at US$150, was recovered.
