Two police detectives were killed on Sunday morning following a shoot-out with an armed robber in Ndanga, Zaka.

One of the detectives died on the spot while another one died on his way to Masvingo Provincial Hospital.

The two detectives were allegedly shot by the suspect, Daniel Munyanyi of Ndemu Village in Ndanga.

Munyanyi is still on the run.

According to national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the suspect was part of a gang of five armed robbers who were being hunted down by the police.

A team of detectives swooped on the suspects in Ndanga and arrested four gang members.

However, Munyanyi escaped after shooting the two detectives.

“It is unfortunate that our team of detectives from CID Homicide in Harare who were tracking armed robbers was involved in a shoot-out that resulted in the death of two detectives,” he said.

“One of the detectives died on the spot while another one died on his way to the hospital.”

Commissioner Nyathi assured Zimbabweans that the fugitive suspect will be nabbed in due course.

“We will soon be releasing a full statement detailing what actually transpired but we are appealing to anyone with information leading to the arrest of Daniel Munyanyi to contact the nearest police station.”

“What we want to assure Zimbabweans is that no matter what, the suspect will be arrested and will face the full wrath of the law,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
