TWO robbers, Conrad Moyo, 22, and Milford Sidahkwa, 24, who are both from Hopley Zone 6, in Harare, have been sentenced to 65 years in jail.

Both men faced a total of 11 robbery charges.

Fifteen years were suspended on condition they do not commit similar crime in the next five years.

On March 5, at approximately 10pm, Moyo and Sidahkwa, along with an accomplice still at large, Shadreck Shava, embarked on a violent criminal spree.

Armed with a bolt cutter, an Okapi knife, a small axe, an electric shocker and a machete, they confronted and assaulted a security guard, forcing him into a nearby bar.

During the course of the robbery, the assailants targeted the bar lady, stealing cash, a cellphone, and several bottles of beer.

They stabbed the security guard with the Okapi, compelling him to surrender his cellphone.

Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri of the CID said:

“Their crime spree did not end there. They proceeded to a nearby motel, forcing open the locked doors and robbed guests of cash and other valuables.”

The suspects further broke into a locked screen door, where they met another victim and stole US$$609, and four cellphones.

They even attempted to carjack a Toyota March, which they planned to use as a getaway vehicle. However, their getaway was thwarted when the car became stuck in the mud, just 20 metres from the property, forcing them to abandon it.

Following a police report, local law enforcement combed the area, leading to Moyo’s arrest.

He implicated Sidahkwa, who was apprehended shortly thereafter at Gowerlands Farm in Beatrice.

Authorities recovered several items used in the commission of the crimes, including a bolt cutter, machete, electric shocker and axe.
