Tyla stuns, wins big at the 2025 MTV VMAs

South African global superstar Tyla once again proved why she’s a force to be reckoned with—both in music and fashion. At the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, held on Sunday, September 7, Tyla not only delivered a jaw-dropping red-carpet look but also walked away with one of the night’s biggest awards.

The star turned heads in a tiny beige Chanel minidress, originally a reworked corset top from Chanel’s Spring/Summer 1993 collection. Styled as the smallest minidress imaginable, it quickly became one of the most talked-about outfits of the evening.

To complete her look, Tyla accessorised with layers of gold medallion necklaces, stacked bracelets, waist chains, and ankle jewellery from Pandora. She also wore super-short black shorts underneath to avoid any wardrobe mishaps and finished her outfit with sharp black pointed heels.

Fashion wasn’t Tyla’s only win of the night. She proudly claimed the “Best Afrobeats” award at the VMAs, solidifying her position as one of the most influential artists of her generation. In addition, her energetic and colourful music video for Push 2 Start earned her a nomination for “Best Choreography,” proving that her artistry continues to expand globally.

Tyla’s rise on the international stage has been nothing short of meteoric. From her unique sound to her bold style, she has managed to capture the world’s attention. This year’s VMAs highlight just how far the young artist has come in such a short time, and how much further she is destined to go.

In a recent interview with Variety Magazine, Tyla opened up about her future goals, revealing that she isn’t stopping at music.

“I want to do almost everything,” she said. “I want to look back one day when I’m older and be like, ‘Damn! I really lived my life.’” With dreams of acting, voice acting, performing, and even creative direction for other artists, Tyla is clearly preparing to expand her empire beyond the stage.

From red-carpet glamour to global recognition, Tyla’s star continues to rise, and the world is watching − OK.
