The search for Miss and Mr Rural Zimbabwe continues, with the pageant underway at the provincial level. So far, the crowning of winners for Matabeleland North and Masvingo provinces has been successfully completed.
The crowns used for the competitions have been sponsored by Mavis Mpofu, based in the United Kingdom.
This week, Mpofu added another special crown to the collection, one she said was inspired by the crown worn by Miss Universe 2017, Demi-Leigh Tebow.
Speaking about the significance of crowns, Mavis said they have been a symbol of prestige for the winners.
“As one of the judges for Miss Rural Zimbabwe, I’ve witnessed first-hand the incredible joy, energy, and happiness that the crown brings to winners from every province. The smiles and excitement are simply heart-warming.”
She said the crowns are more than decorative items; they carry symbolic meaning and responsibility.
“A crown is worn by models as ambassadors, representing their country. I discovered that crowns are a symbol with layered meaning. In cultures like Ancient Egypt and Greece, queens embodied a nation’s dignity and values, representing wisdom, compassion, and beauty. “Similarly, pageant winners today are expected to represent confidence, cultural pride, and humanitarian causes. Receiving a crown is not just winning a competition; it’s stepping into a symbolic lineage of power, responsibility, and grace.”
She also spoke about the modern significance of crowns in promoting women’s empowerment, leadership, and advocacy.
“The crown provides a platform to inspire and influence. Winners become role models, entrusted with representing values, culture, or causes beyond personal achievement.”
Mpofu’s passion for pageantry began in 2018 when she watched Miss Universe, cheering as Catriona Gray of the Philippines claimed the crown.
“Her victory ignited a passion within me, inspiring me beyond measure. That’s why I’m excited to say that Miss Rural Zimbabwe will be receiving a stunning look-alike crown.
“My dream is to create a treasure trove of crowns for every provincial winner, allowing the girls to keep and cherish them even after the competition concludes. These crowns symbolise their aspirations and serve as a beautiful reminder to pursue their dreams.”
The pageant’s founder, Sipho Mazibuko, expressed gratitude for Mpofu’s support and emphasised the importance of sponsorship in empowering rural youth.
“I’m thrilled that Mavis is helping build confidence in rural girls. These crowns are not just beautiful, they are high-quality and a true confidence booster. We deeply appreciate the support and hope more sponsors will come forward to help empower the rural child, who are truly our future,” said Mazibuko.
