Outgoing United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ms Maria do Valle Ribeiro, has urged Government and development partners to continue working towards the improvement of the status of women and youths by incorporating them in the formulation and implementation of projects and programmes.
Ms Ribeiro said this when she paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda yesterday.
She has been at the helm of the UN agencies in Zimbabwe since 2019.
She said they had also discussed various upcoming legislations expected in Parliament including amendments to electoral laws.
Ms Ribeiro said Parliament was a critical institution the UN would continue supporting because its oversight and legislative roles were key in promoting democracy.
The UN is finalising the new cooperation framework with the Government which is premised on four areas of cooperation which are people and human development, sustainable environment and climate change, economic transformation focusing on women and youth and governance issues focusing on Parliament, independent commissions and the devolution process.
In his remarks, Adv Mudenda thanked Ms Ribeiro for coming to bid Parliament farewell, including the coordinative role she has been playing during her tour of duty.
