ZIMBABWE is capitalising on its participation at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) to turn international diplomacy into economic gains, with the Government saying the country’s main focus is on converting restored trust into tangible outcomes and pursuing deeper collaboration in areas where Zimbabwe has a competitive advantage.

This comes as the country is expected to intensify engagements aimed at attracting investment and partnerships at the start of the General Assembly session.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira arrived in New York yesterday.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Honourable Professor Dr Amon Murwira, has arrived in New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), which is being held under the theme, ‘Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All’.

“This timely global theme directly mirrors Zimbabwe’s current domestic and international trajectory, as the UN’s call to restore trust is exemplified by Zimbabwe’s recent landslide election to the UN Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, with a resounding 96 percent endorsement (182 out of 190 votes),” said the Ministry.

“Furthermore, the UN’s focus on managing transformation and delivering for all aligns seamlessly with Zimbabwe’s internal shift towards technological self-reliance under Heritage-Based Education 5.0 and President Mnangagwa’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind.”

Zimbabwe will leverage the sidelines of UNGA 81 to host a high-level Zimbabwe Business Forum, organised in collaboration with ZimTrade, the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), aimed at unlocking financing for key sectors of the economy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the forum would be held under the theme: “Global Challenges. Zimbabwean Solutions. Shared Prosperity.”

The forum will showcase Zimbabwe’s growing agriculture, mining and tourism sectors directly to international financiers and investors.

It will bring together local companies, international buyers, investors, financiers and development partners as the country seeks to expand export markets, attract investment and strengthen commercial relations.
