The US has expelled South Africa’s Ambassador, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, referring to the envoy as a “race-baiting politician” who dislikes US President Donald Trump.
Relations have deteriorated since Trump reduced US financial aid to South Africa, citing objections to its land policy and its genocide case against Washington’s ally, Israel, at the International Court of Justice.
“South Africa’s Ambassador to the United States is no longer welcome in our great country,” Rubio mentioned in a post on X on Friday.
In statements from its presidency and international relations department, South Africa described the move as regrettable but affirmed its commitment to fostering mutually beneficial relations and plans to address the issue through diplomatic channels. – Reuters
