ENVIRONMENT, Climate and Wildlife Minister Dr Evelyn Ndlovu has commissioned tourism infrastructure projects at Kyle Recreational Park near Lake Mutirikwi.
The projects, which seek to improve Kyle Recreational Park’s tourism appeal, were developed for US$150 000 as part of efforts to grow the tourism sector in line with Vision 2030.
Government, Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority(Zimparks) and stakeholders joined forces to undertake the projects that have transformed the park’s face as it seeks to attract more tourists and diversify its revenue generation base.
Among the infrastructure projects that were developed at Kyle Recreational Park is a new state-of-the-art entrance gate that operates using the latest technology, tourism lodges, a solar-powered water reticulation system, a solar power plant, campsite ablution facilities and tourism gazebos.
Minister Ndlovu paid tribute to all parties who lent a hand in rolling out the new projects.
“I thank ZimParks, our conservation partners, Government institutions, technical teams, the private sector, local communities and all stakeholders who have contributed to this achievement,” she said.
Speaking at the same event, director for coordination in the office of the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ms Rosemary Chingwe, said the province’s tourism was on the rebound.
Ms Chingwe noted that the development of tourism infrastructure projects at Kyle Recreational Park were coming after Masvingo hosted the highly subscribed Sanganai/Hlanganani Dzimbahwe World Tourism Expo.
ZimParks Director General Dr Edison Gandiwa rallied communities to take the lead in preserving wildlife for the nation’s and future generations’ benefit.
Traditional leaders and villagers from Chikwanda and surrounding areas attended the commissioning ceremony.
