Bulawayo-born rapper, DJ, and storyteller Vega Smalls is set to release his new EP, The Chronicles Mixtape: Redemption Arc, this September.
His upcoming project, a five-track EP produced by Gungstr Riddim under Empire Delta, marks a personal turn, with Vega Smalls taking the reins as the sole performer.
“This release is not just about music; it’s about responding to my supporters. ‘The Chronicles Mixtape’ reflects my struggles, growth, and the lessons I’ve learnt from collaborating with others. I chose to make it a solo project to keep it personal and authentic,” he said.
The mixtape explores themes of redemption, resilience, disappointment, and strength, showcasing an artist who has matured both creatively and professionally.
Vega Smalls has developed a reputation for collaborating with some of Bulawayo’s top talents and media platforms. His work spans radio stations, individual artists, and musical groups, including Rise of Kings and Queens, Shots by Jay, Asaph, Thorne Laroq, Skyz Metro FM, ZBC, and Mjox.
“Collaboration has been a key part of my journey. Last year, I worked on a project called ‘Spiritual Adventure’ with multiple talented creatives, which is still unreleased. Every collaboration has helped me grow, learn, and refine my sound,” he said.
“Every collaboration, every project, has shaped me. This new chapter signifies growth, responsibility, and gratitude for my fans who have supported me along the way,” Vega Smalls added.
The musician revealed that his musical journey began in primary school.
“My passion for music started in grade six when I deejayed our end-of-year class party. Resources were limited, but I kept writing and performing with friends. In 2020, a professional DJ introduced me to a Digital Audio Workstation, and my career has grown steadily since then,” he said.
