A 74-year-old visually-impaired man claims a local musician owes him US$1,215 for renting his flat in the Avenues area of Harare and the row has been going on for four years now.

Sekuru Innocent Mutubuki told H-Metro Hubert Chitambara, popularly known as Huby Blakes, has been refusing to settle the arrears for using his bachelor’s flat.

Sekuru Mutubuki said he last met Huby Blakes in 2022 and the musician told him to go to hell.

“Huby Blakes has been taking advantage of my blindness and also taking advantage of the agent he engaged to rent my apartment,” said Sekuru Mutubuki.

“He also took advantage of limited movement during Covid-19 and decided to stay without paying rent.

“This young man then told me to go to hell for asking him to pay his rent.”He belittled me and that was the last day I met him.

“Akatiza akaenda kuSouth Africa asi ndakanzwa kuti akadzoka.

“He blocked my contact number and he is refusing to tell me where he is currently staying so that we can serve him with summons.

“I have approached the courts but Huby Blakes is nowhere to be found, anonzi anombowonekwa pamabhazi muna Samora Machel.”

Huby Blakes told H-Metro he stayed at the flat for about three years.

“Handizive kuti mudhara uyu arikundinetserei. I want to believe that he was duped by his agent, not me.

“If he has a case against me, let him report or go to court rather than calling me.

“His agent gave me three months’ notice and I left for South Africa, the agent should be the one who takes me to court, not him.

“I left the keys with the caretaker at the flat and, as for how much I owe him, his agent is the one who should answer that.

“I returned from South Africa recently only to be welcomed by such issues.

“Agent akamboda kundibudisa mumba ndikanetsana naye about the need for three months’ notice and I engaged my lawyer and that is how it ended and I left the country.”
