VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Constantino Chiwenga has described the widow of national hero and ZANLA Commander, General Josiah Magama Tongogara, Mrs Angeline Tongogara, as a selfless woman of valour whose life of dignity and service should inspire future generations.
In a message celebrating Mrs Tongogara’s 80th birthday, VP Chiwenga paid glowing tribute to her enduring strength, patriotism and unwavering devotion to both her family and the nation.
He said Mrs Tongogara had not only played a crucial role during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle but had also remained a pillar of strength after the passing of her late husband, guiding her family with grace and commitment while continuing to serve the country in various capacities.
“On this very special day, your amainini Miniyothabo, my family and I extend our warmest wishes to you on your 80th birthday,” said VP Chiwenga.
“It is a moment for celebration, reflection and recognition of the profound impact you have had on the lives of many, especially in light of your late husband, the great Commander, General Josiah Magama Tongogara, whose legacy continues to inspire generations in our beloved Zimbabwe.”
VP Chiwenga said Mrs Tongogara’s life embodies the resilience and fortitude that defined the liberation generation.
“Amaiguru, you are a woman of valour, who has lived a controversy-free life, and you are an epitome of a life well lived.
“Yours, a life of national selflessness, hard work and family guidance, is a life that should be emulated by the younger generation and we are proud to have you as our amaiguru,” he said.
The Vice-President also commended Mrs Tongogara for her compassion and leadership, saying her contribution to the country extended far beyond her role as the widow of a liberation icon.
“Your love and compassion for everyone is unmatched and we all truly appreciate you,” said VP Chiwenga.
“General Josiah Magama Tongogara was not just a Commander; he was an icon whose vision and determination helped shape our nation’s destiny.
“Your partnership with him and support during those trying times was invaluable, and your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed. It is through your unwavering support that many were able to fight for freedom and justice.”
As Mrs Tongogara celebrated her milestone birthday, VP Chiwenga wished her continued peace, health, and happiness.
“As you celebrate another year of life, I wish you all the joy and happiness that your heart can hold. May this year be filled with love, peace, and the comfort of cherished memories.
“You have our deepest respect and appreciation, and your legacy will always be honoured in our hearts.
“Once again, Happy 80th Birthday, Amaiguru! Praying for many many more years and blessings,” he said.
