VICE-PRESIDENT Kembo Mohadi has arrived at Mberengwa District Hospital at Mberengwa Centre, where he is expected to commission the facility following its US$4 million rehabilitation and modernisation by Mimosa Mining Company.

The upgraded hospital is expected to bring critical medical services closer to more than 50 000 people, improving access to healthcare for communities in Mberengwa and surrounding areas.

The facility is equipped with modern medical equipment and specialised infrastructure expected to strengthen maternal and child healthcare, improve emergency management and reduce the need for patients to travel to Zvishavane and Gweru for essential medical services.

Vice-President Mohadi was welcomed by Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube.

Also present are Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Sleiman Kwidini, Chief Ngungumbane and other Government officials.

The project includes a district hospital-standard outpatient department with six consultation rooms, a 26-bed maternity wing, a kitchen, laundry, operating theatre, guardroom and an administration block with a boardroom.

The male and female wards each have a capacity of 26 beds. Medical equipment has also been procured and installed for the operating theatre, maternity unit, outpatient department, children’s ward, male and female wards, mortuary, laundry and kitchen.

Additional works include perimeter palisade fencing, 40 000-litre water storage tanks, landscaping and a 1,2-kilometre tarred access road, alongside the provision of furniture and other essential support equipment.

The investment aligns with the Government’s development priorities under the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and the Call to Action: No Compromise to Service Delivery blueprint, which seek to ensure that communities access quality and affordable services regardless of their geographical location.
