WADDILOVE High School in Marondera was recently honoured by the Government as one of the country’s top schools.
This follows its consistent strong academic performance against the backdrop of wide-ranging reforms being implemented in the education sector by the Government.
These include enhanced teacher capacitation, closer syllabus alignment and targeted learner support programmes.This also comes as the country transitions from the Competency-Based Curriculum to the Heritage-Based Curriculum (HBC).
The Heritage-Based Curriculum Framework 2024-2030 places emphasis on skills development, problem-solving, innovation, entrepreneurship, patriotism and Ubuntu.
Under the new framework, learners are expected to acquire practical competencies that prepare them for employment, self-reliance and economic productivity.The Government has also intensified teacher training programmes, strengthened continuous assessment systems and rolled out ICT infrastructure and digital learning tools, particularly in rural and marginalised schools.
These interventions are complemented by expanded partnerships with development agencies to improve access to textbooks, learning materials and school infrastructure.
Based on early 2025 ZIMSEC results, top-performing schools include Methodist Church in Zimbabwe-run schools (Waddilove, Sandringham, Moleli), which saw 258 candidates achieve 15 points or better, and Corpus Christ High School, boasting 84 of 105 candidates scoring 10+ points.
Rufaro High School and Gwanda High School also produced exceptional results.
The school has maintained a near 100 percent pass rate in both Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.
The school, has been maintaining a 100 percent pass rate in both Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) Ordinary and Advanced Level results. The school secured a 98,6 percent in the 2025 ZIMSEC O-Level results after 209 of the 212 passed five subjects and above.
A total of 108 have five As in O Level subjects and above. About 37 learners scored 10As and above in the 2025 Zimsec O-Level examinations.
Two of the learners scored big after obtaining 15 As in O-Level subjects.
The institution won three awards at a colourful ceremony held at the Harare International Conference Centre, hosted by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
Vice President Kembo Mohadi was the guest of honour. The school’s accolades and certificates were received by the headmaster, Charles Gwenda.
The Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ) run school won three awards, Best Ordinary Level School (National Award), Best Special Needs Education Ordinary Level School Award, and Best Ordinary Level School (Provincial Level).
As an inclusive school, all visually impaired learners who sat for the 2025 O Level examinations passed with flying colours.
MCZ secretary for education and academics, Reverend Daniel Muzenda, said the national recognition is a great honour for both the school and MCZ.“This is a great honour from government and we are happy as a church when government acknowledges such excellent performance.
“This honour is attributed to the hard work of the school management, teaching and non teaching staff, and the support from the church as the responsible authority. “Also, as MCZ schools, our motto is a beacon of excellence,” he said.
