Wan-Bissaka’s girlfriend faces jail

PREMIER League star Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s girlfriend is facing jail if found guilty of mowing down a pedestrian.

April Francis, 27, is accused of hitting the woman with her car in September, leaving her with life-changing injuries.

The £55million-rated West Ham full-back is not thought to have been present when the incident happened in Brentwood, Essex.

Francis, who has been with the footballer since 2020 and is mother to their daughter, now faces court having been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

It is one of the most serious motoring offences drivers can be charged with, and the maximum sentence on conviction is five years in prison.

Francis was charged earlier this month by postal requisition after police and prosecutors reviewed evidence.

She is now due to appear at Colchester magistrates’ court in Essex on February 17.

Wan-Bissaka, who began his career at Crystal Palace before making 130 appearances for Manchester United, played for West Ham yesterday in their 3-1 win over Sunderland.

Last year, he switched his international allegiance from England, for whom he played at under-20 and under-21 level, to Democratic Republic of the Congo. An Essex Police spokesman told The Sun on Sunday: “A woman is due to appear in court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a collision in Brentwood.

“At around 8.50am on Tuesday September 23 last year, officers were called to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Hartswood Road.

“ The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 50s, suffered life-changing injuries.

“An investigation has continued since then, led by our Roads Policing Unit.

“This has resulted in a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving against April Francis, 27, of East London.”

The Crown Prosecution Service added: “She is due to appear for a first hearing at Colchester magistrates’ court on February 17.”

We approached Wan-Bissaka and Ms Francis for comment.  Sun.

  1. Is this news for local consumption? Come on, get serious. There is a lot of quality and more important local sports news that can fill spaces. Putting such unrelated news in our spaces is either a sign of laziness on the part of journalists or childish excitement driven by lack of self-confidence.
