MANCHESTER. – They played Magic by Pilot – the tune Manchester United fans sing Michael Carrick’s name to – for the first time at Old Trafford.
There is a good chance that the song and head coach will be permanent additions at the stadium beyond this season after another three points.
It is now six wins out of seven for unbeaten United under Carrick.
They occupy third place for the first time since they finished there in May 2023.
Benjamin Sesko went from super-sub to super-starter with his third winning goal for United in only a month.
On his first start under Carrick, Sesko nodded United ahead with a heroic header to complete a swift comeback against ten-man Crystal Palace.
For 45 minutes, 3-4-2-1 worked at Old Trafford. Ruben Amorim is long gone but Oliver Glasner marshalled Palace superbly in the first half.
A cruel red card for Maxence Lacroix, with Palace 1-0 up, in the 56th minute totally changed the game. Eleven minutes later, Palace were behind.
The Eagles’ afternoon had started so promisingly. Dean Henderson, the new Palace captain, played the villain on his return to United by ordering them to attack the Stretford End in the first half.
There was maybe method to it as well. Senne Lammens was facing the sun and it possibly contributed to his statuesque goalkeeping for Lacroix’s looping header.
The sun was only out for the first ten minutes and Palace were ahead in the fourth. – The Sun
