A GANG of armed robbers unleashed terror in Entumbane last night when they stormed two sports bars armed with an axe and a gun, attacking three employees before firing shots and vanishing into the darkness.
The attacks took place minutes before midnight at Afri Sports Bar, popularly known as koGlad, and PicknTalk Sports Bar, also known as kosaMzi. The two entertainment spots are less than 100 metres apart.

A security guard at Afri Sports Bar, Devine Tsiga, said chaos broke out when the robbers burst into the bar and ordered patrons to lie on the floor.
“They went straight to the counter while we were still trying to understand what was happening. One of them tried to axe me in the head but I dodged and the blow hit my hand,” said Tsiga.

As he was defending himself, other members of the gang allegedly jumped over the counter and demanded money from the bartender. The robbers then dragged the bartender outside and struck him below the knee with the axe before firing a warning shot into the air.

From there, the gang moved to PicknTalk Sports Bar where they fired two more shots and ordered patrons to lie down.
“Everyone complied but we are disturbed because they also axed the bar lady,” said one patron at the scene.

When the news crew arrived at Afri Sports Bar, blood spatters were still visible on part of the floor, painting a grim picture of the violent attack.
Meanwhile, a neighbourhood watch committee member in Emakhandeni is battling for life after being shot in the head by a gang believed to have been travelling from the direction of Entumbane around 1AM.

Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said police will release a full statement once more details have been gathered.
Authorities are investigating whether the attacks are linked.
