THE Chronicle joined the nation in celebrating Zimbabwe’s 46th Independence Day by distributing 4 000 free copies of its Matabeleland South Edition Independence Special to thousands of people gathered at Maphisa Stadium for the national celebrations.
The commemorative publication was handed out to jubilant crowds attending the main Independence Day event.
Chronicle Editor Lawson Mabhena said the newspaper was proud to be part of the national celebrations and to ensure the significance of the day was captured and shared with the people.
“As the nation gathered in Maphisa for Independence Day, Chronicle ensured the story of the day reached every hand. Our team distributed 4 000 free copies of the Matabeleland South Edition (Independence Special) to jubilant crowds,” said Mabhena.
He said the response from the public reflected the excitement surrounding the celebrations, with people from all walks of life eager to receive the special edition.
“From schoolkids to veterans, everyone got a piece of history to take home,” he said.
Mabhena noted that while the Chronicle Matabeleland South Edition is ordinarily produced as a free weekly e-paper, the decision to print the Independence Special was made in honour of the people of Maphisa, who hosted this year’s national celebrations.
The special publication captured the significance of the national event, which brought together thousands of Zimbabweans under the theme “Zimbabwe at 46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.”
The free distribution of the special edition added to the festive atmosphere at Maphisa Stadium, with many attendees welcoming the gesture as a meaningful way to preserve memories of the historic celebrations.
