ZIMBABWE’S ambitions of qualifying for the 2030 Fifa World Cup received a boost with the introduction of a new team bus sponsored by Ecobank, which is expected to serve all the country’s national football teams.

The bus was presented in Bulawayo on Wednesday, with Ecobank and ZIFA highlighting the significance of the investment in the country’s football development.

Mike Dengwani, Ecobank senior executive in the managing director’s office, said the bus was intended to benefit all national teams as the country seeks to build towards its World Cup ambitions.

“This bus is meant to support all our national teams. It is part of our commitment to supporting ZIFA and its Dream 2030 initiative, where the target is to see Zimbabwe qualify for the World Cup,” said Dengwani.

He said the investment was not limited to the Warriors but was aimed at strengthening support for the wider national football structure.

ZIFA Southern Region chairman Chris Mtungwazi also welcomed the development, praising association president Nqobile Magwizi for his efforts to professionalise Zimbabwean football.

“We want to applaud our president, Nqobile Magwizi, for the work he is doing to professionalise the game. These are the kinds of developments that show the direction in which we want our football to go,” said Mtungwazi.

The provision of the bus is part of efforts to improve the logistical arrangements for national teams, giving them better support as they represent the country in international competitions.

With Dream 2030 setting an ambitious target of World Cup qualification, investments in the national teams’ support systems will be an important part of ZIFA’s broader development agenda.
