The world of entertainment is often characterised by bright lights and fleeting fame, but sometimes it casts a light on profound relationships that shape the lives of those involved.
One such relationship was between the late Babongile Sikhonjwa, a luminary in the industry, and his protégé DJ Eugy.
Sikhonjwa, renowned for his lively personality and infectious humour, died at United Bulawayo Hospitals after complaining of breathing complications on September 21.
He was aged 49.
Upon Sikhonjwa’s untimely passing, DJ Eugy shared a heartfelt tribute that highlighted the impact Sikhonjwa had on his life, both personally and professionally.

“You were like my father,” DJ Eugy began, capturing the emotional weight of their bond.
The gravity of this acknowledgment reflects not only the respect Eugy had for Sikhonjwa but also the mentorship that transformed his career.
In an industry where so many are looking for guidance, Sikhonjwa stood out as a figure who was willing to lend a helping hand and share invaluable insights into the industry.
DJ Eugy reminisced about the countless weddings and corporate events they rocked together, underlining the synergy that existed between the master and his apprentice.
The memories of those high-energy events serve as a testament to Sikhonjwa’s influence and the joy he brought to countless gatherings.
“I have been dreading to talk about my relationship with him. Sikhonjwa is the last person I thought would ever leave this earth. He is the person who created DJ Eugy and opened many doors for me.
“Together, we rocked plenty of weddings, and corporate events. He was my mentor, as he taught me all the ropes in this industry I needed to learn. I will miss our escapades, lunch and dinner dates. I will forever miss him,” said DJ Eugy.
With such memories they created together, it is this blend of brotherhood and mentorship that will forever remain etched in Eugy’s heart.
